Six misfits, one beat-up ship, and an Awesome Mix loud enough to wake half a quadrant. An outlaw with mommy issues and a Walkman, an assassin who keeps choosing the wrong family, an angry raccoon with a custom-built Rocket weapon, a tree, a wrestler who only speaks literal, and an empath who can put gods to sleep. They will get yelled at, cosmically. They will save the galaxy, mostly by accident. And then they'll dance about it. Are you the one with the playlist, the one with the swords, or the one who is, in fact, Groot? Take this 24-question quiz to find out.

Question 1 of 24
About Guardians of the Galaxy
Guardians of the Galaxy premiered in August 2014 and gave Marvel one of its most beloved misfit ensembles. James Gunn, then a relatively niche director, took a deep-cut comics property nobody outside the diehards was asking for and turned it into a galaxy-spanning needle-drop musical about chosen family. Star-Lord (a half-human outlaw with a Walkman), Gamora (the deadliest woman in the galaxy), Drax (a literalist whose entire personality is grief), Rocket (a genetically engineered raccoon with abandonment issues), and Groot (a sentient tree with a three-word vocabulary) became one of the MCU's most quoted casts. Two sequels followed (2017's Vol. 2 and 2023's Vol. 3), the trilogy ended on a genuine emotional high note, and Gunn left Marvel for DC immediately after.
The Guardians' next chapter is folded into Avengers: Doomsday, scheduled for December 2026, where the surviving members of the team are expected to converge with the rest of the MCU for what's been positioned as a cross-franchise event. The Phase 6 reshuffle has put the Guardians back in the conversation: rewatch numbers spiked when the Doomsday cast list was confirmed, and the question of which Guardians make it through the new film is dominating fan theory threads. This quiz spans all three Vol. films and works regardless of how much MCU continuity you've kept up with. The cast is famously sharp and emotionally distinct, which makes the character match more meaningful than the usual superhero quiz.
The Guardians work as a personality framework because Gunn built each member around a specific kind of damage and a specific kind of joy. Star-Lord is unearned confidence that grew into actual leadership. Gamora is competence that had to learn how to want things for herself. Drax is grief weaponized into a refusal to do small talk. Rocket is the smartest one in the room hiding behind insults. Groot is loyalty as the entire personality, no second draft. Mantis is empathy as a superpower and a vulnerability. Picking which of these you actually are forces you to think about which kind of weird you are, which is more useful than most quizzes.
Meet the Characters
Each result in this quiz is anchored in a real character from Guardians of the Galaxy — here's a quick guide to who you might end up matched with.
Star-Lord
The Outlaw With The Walkman
You're cocky, sentimental, and one good song away from crying in your spaceship. You hold this crew together with a smile, a one-liner, and an absolute refusal to be the smartest person in the room. Your dad issues are extremely public, your taste in music is extremely 1980s, and your loyalty — once you give it — is the entire reason this team is still alive.
Gamora
The Assassin Who Chose A Different Family
You were raised to be a weapon. You walked away. You're sharp, deliberate, and tired of being underestimated by men who can't aim. You roll your eyes at the playlist, at the dance battles, at the entire crew — and you'd burn down a planet for any of them. The serious one. The competent one. The one who actually has the plan.
Rocket
The Engineer With A Bad Attitude
You're the smallest one in the room and you've made absolutely sure that's the only thing nobody can hold over you. You build the gun. You wire the ship. You insult everyone in earshot. Underneath the bite is somebody who's never quite forgiven the universe for what it did to him — and who'd rebuild the Walkman one more time for the family he didn't think he wanted.
Groot
The Heart Of The Crew
You are Groot. That's most of what people get from you, and somehow it's everything they need. Loyal, gentle, surprisingly silly, and capable of devastating violence when somebody touches your family. You give without asking, you protect without announcing it, and the dance is always worth it.
Drax
The Destroyer Who Doesn't Get The Joke
You take everything literally and that's exactly why your friends love you. You are loud, fearless, and emotionally honest in a way that makes everyone else look like cowards. You have lost more than you should have ever had to lose, and you channel it into laughter, food, friendship, and the occasional perfect, devastating one-liner.
Mantis
The Empath Who Reads The Room
You can feel what everyone in the room feels. Which is probably why you spent so long being quiet. You're soft, weird, surprisingly funny, and braver than anyone gives you credit for. You can put gods to sleep with a touch — but mostly you'd rather make your friends laugh and have somebody to dance with.
How This Quiz Works
Every question presents you with options that explore different sides of the cast. As you answer, your match builds gradually toward the character you most resemble.
At the end, the character you most closely match becomes your result. The match percentage reflects how strongly your answers leaned toward that character versus the runners-up. A high match means your personality clearly fit one archetype; a closer call means you're a blend, which is just as common.
We don't ask for your email, sign-up, or any personal info to see your result. Take the quiz, get your character, share it if you want, and that's it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this quiz spoiler-safe for Avengers Doomsday?
Yes. The questions are about temperament and how you handle found family, not plot beats. We don't reference Doomsday storylines or speculate on which Guardians return, so whether you've seen the December 2026 film or are still catching up, the experience is the same.
Are James Gunn's films and the new MCU continuity consistent?
For quiz purposes, yes. The personality profiles for each Guardian are stable across all three Gunn films and any MCU appearances afterward. The questions don't depend on continuity specifics, so the results work whether you treat the trilogy as standalone or as part of the larger MCU canon.
Why is Mantis a result and not Nebula or Yondu?
Mantis has more developed character work across the trilogy than people remember, and her trait profile (high empathy, low confidence, secret depth) is a genuinely common match. Nebula is a great character but her arc overlaps with Gamora's enough that including both would muddy the results. Yondu is in a similar category. A second-tier edition is possible later.
