There's a treasure clue stitched into a missing dad's compass. There's a Kook girl whose father owns half the island. There's a Pogue crew with no money, one boat, and absolutely nothing to lose. Now there's a 400-million-dollar shipwreck with their name on it, a sheriff who doesn't believe a word of it, and roughly seven people trying to kill them by Friday. Are you the Pogue king leading the chase, the Kook who chose the wrong side of the cut, or the one who actually reads the map before the boat sinks? Take this 24-question quiz to find out.

About Outer Banks
Outer Banks premiered on Netflix in April 2020, right as the world was looking for escapist summer television, and turned into a sleeper hit that has since run four seasons. The show centers on the Pogues, a tight-knit group of working-class teens from the Outer Banks of North Carolina (John B, JJ, Kiara, Pope, and later Sarah and Cleo), who get pulled into a multi-generational treasure hunt involving a sunken ship, a missing father, gold bars, the Royal Merchant, and eventually a Spanish cross. The Kooks (rich kids from the other side of the island) are the social antagonists, but the real engine of the show is the chemistry between the Pogues and the way the friendship is treated as more sacred than any of the romances or treasure plots.
Season 5 has been confirmed as the final season and is set for release in 2026, which means the fandom is currently in send-off mode, rewatching from the beginning and theorizing about which Pogue is least likely to make it out alive. Outer Banks has become a defining piece of Gen Z TV, with social media obsessing over every pairing (JJ and Kiara especially), every cliffhanger, and the increasingly absurd globe-trotting (the show has visited the Bahamas, Barbados, Morocco, and a fictional South American jungle by now). The character roster is small, the personalities are sharply drawn, and almost every viewer has a favorite Pogue they'd defend in an argument, which is exactly the right setup for a character-match quiz.
The Pogues work as personality archetypes because each one represents a different way to handle being broke, being underestimated, and being chronically in danger. John B is the leader who carries grief like a backpack. JJ is the live-wire whose loyalty is the loudest thing about him. Kiara is the principled one with one foot in both worlds. Pope is the planner who keeps everyone alive by thinking three steps ahead. Sarah is the Kook who chose the Pogues and has to keep choosing them. Cleo is the survivor who arrived later and immediately mattered. The quiz gets at which kind of friend you actually are when the stakes are real.
Meet the Characters
Each result in this quiz is anchored in a real character from Outer Banks — here's a quick guide to who you might end up matched with.
John B Routledge
The Pogue King
You're the leader nobody appointed. People follow you because you make impossible things sound like a plan. You've been carrying a missing dad and a missing future since you were a kid, and you've turned that grief into a refusal to give up on anyone. Loyal, reckless, way too convinced you can outrun consequences — which, somehow, you usually do.
Sarah Cameron
The Kook Princess Who Crossed The Cut
You were raised in the biggest house on the island, and you traded every bit of it for a boy and a feeling. People think you're soft because you grew up easy — they're missing how brave it actually is to walk away from money like that. You're the one who keeps the crew from imploding when emotions hit.
JJ Maybank
The Loose Cannon
You're chaos with a heart the size of the island. You'd take a bullet for every person in this group and ask zero questions on the way down. Your dad was bad, your home life was worse, and somehow you came out funny, fiercely loyal, and dangerously bad at thinking past the next 90 seconds. The crew is your real family and you'd burn the world for them.
Kiara Carrera
The Conscience Of The Crew
You grew up Kook, you live Pogue, and you have opinions about both. You're the one who saves the turtles, calls out the men, and refuses to let the group cut a corner just because it would be easier. Stubborn, principled, and fiercely loyal — once you choose someone, that's it for life.
Pope Heyward
The Brain
You're the planner, the scholar, the one who actually reads the map. The crew would have died in episode two without you. You came up working hard for everything, you've got a future people would kill for, and you keep choosing your friends over the safe path anyway. Quiet, sharp, and braver than people give you credit for.
Cleo Anderson
The Streetwise One
You came up rougher than anyone in the boat and you don't talk about it. You're sharp, observant, and three steps ahead of every situation because you've had to be. People assume you're closed off — really, you're just careful about who earns the warm side of you. When you finally let someone in, you're in for life.
How This Quiz Works
Every question presents you with options that explore different sides of the cast. As you answer, your match builds gradually toward the character you most resemble.
At the end, the character you most closely match becomes your result. The match percentage reflects how strongly your answers leaned toward that character versus the runners-up. A high match means your personality clearly fit one archetype; a closer call means you're a blend, which is just as common.
We don't ask for your email, sign-up, or any personal info to see your result. Take the quiz, get your character, share it if you want, and that's it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this quiz spoiler-safe for Season 5?
Yes. The questions are about your personality and friendship style, not plot beats. We don't reference any Season 5 storylines, so whether you're caught up through Season 4 or have already watched the 2026 finale, the experience is the same.
Can I get a Kook as a result?
Not in this version. The results pool is the six core Pogues plus Sarah, who's a former Kook now firmly in the Pogue camp. Topper, Rafe, and the other Kooks would skew the quiz toward antagonist results, which isn't what most viewers are looking for. A Kook edition is on the maybe list.
Why is JJ the most popular result?
JJ tends to win the quiz the most often, which tracks with his fan favorite status. The trait combination (high loyalty, high impulsivity, deep loyalty hidden under chaos) is one most viewers either have or wish they had. Pope is the rarest match, mostly because his methodical planner archetype is genuinely uncommon.
