There's a phone call after midnight. The voice on the other end knows the rules of every horror movie ever made — and is asking if you do too. There's a small town that should have stopped making the news a decade ago, a reporter who built her career on its body count, and a survivor who refuses to be the victim again. Are you the final girl who keeps walking out the front door, the masked voice on the phone, the journalist who'll do anything for the story, or the friend who runs into the house instead of out of it? Take this 24-question quiz to find out.

About Scream
Wes Craven's Scream premiered in December 1996 and rewrote the rules for slasher cinema. The original film, written by Kevin Williamson, dropped the Ghostface killer onto the small town of Woodsboro and introduced the world to Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), a final girl who knew the rules of horror movies and used them to stay alive. The film was a critical and commercial juggernaut, spawning three sequels in the original Craven cycle (1997, 2000, 2011), a 2022 requel (Scream V) that handed the torch to a new generation led by Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, and Scream VI in 2023 that moved the action to Manhattan. Scream 7, released in February 2026 with Neve Campbell back in the lead, has crossed the billion-dollar mark globally, the highest grossing entry in the entire franchise.
What's kept Scream alive across thirty years is the franchise's commitment to being smarter than the genre it lives in. Every film is partly a slasher and partly a meta-commentary on the slasher cycle of its moment, and the Ghostface mask has become as iconic as Michael Myers's or Jason's. The character roster spans three decades of survivors, killers, and reporters: Sidney Prescott, Gale Weathers, Dewey Riley, Kirby Reed, Sam Carpenter, and (depending on the era) the various Ghostface unmaskings. This quiz keeps the tone tasteful, focuses on temperament and survival style rather than gore, and works for fans of any era of the franchise. Whether you got into Scream through the original Craven cycle or arrived via the 2022 requel, you'll recognize the results.
The Scream cast works as a personality framework because Williamson and Craven built each survivor around a different theory of what gets you through the night. Sidney is the final girl whose grief made her dangerous. Gale is ambition wearing a press pass and refusing to apologize. Dewey is the deputy whose decency is also his armor. Kirby is the horror nerd whose movie literacy is a survival skill. Sam is the inheritor whose family history makes her question whether she's actually the hero. Picking which of these you'd be when the phone rings is more revealing than it sounds.
Meet the Characters
Each result in this quiz is anchored in a real character from Scream — here's a quick guide to who you might end up matched with.
Sidney Prescott
The Final Girl
You've survived more than anyone should have to and you've stopped pretending it didn't change you. You don't run from the call anymore — you walk straight at it. People mistake your steadiness for being closed off; really, you've just done the work nobody else had to. Loyal, hard-earned, and genuinely the person you want next to you when the lights go out.
Ghostface
The Voice On The Phone
You know every rule of every movie ever made and you weaponize them. You're patient, theatrical, and obsessed with the idea of legacy — yours, somebody else's, doesn't matter. Underneath the mask is someone deeply convinced their version of the story is the right one. The scary part is how prepared you actually are.
Gale Weathers
The Reporter Who Won't Quit
You built a career writing about a town nobody was supposed to come back to, and you keep coming back. Sharp, ambitious, allergic to the polite version of the question. You're the one whose phone is always recording, whose first instinct is the headline — and somewhere along the way, also the friend who shows up when it actually counts.
Dewey Riley
The Loyal Sheriff
You're earnest in a town that ate earnestness for breakfast. You've been here for every body and every funeral, and you keep showing up anyway, badge straight, voice steady. People underestimate you because of the soft heart — they shouldn't. You're the one who runs toward the noise, every single time.
Tara Carpenter
The Sister Who Refuses To Be Prey
You're sharp-edged, modern, and tired of the genre's tired ideas about who gets to live. You'd rather pick a fight than wait to be saved, and you'd rather burn the whole legacy down than inherit it quietly. People read your humor as detachment; really, it's armor. The people you love know exactly how fierce you are underneath.
Sam Carpenter
The One Carrying The Family Secret
You came back to a town that doesn't deserve you, for a sister who needs you. You're guarded, capable, and fighting a legacy you didn't ask for. The voice in your head says you're going to become the worst version of your bloodline — and the entire show of you is proof you won't. Protective in a way that scares people. In a good way.
How This Quiz Works
Every question presents you with options that explore different sides of the cast. As you answer, your match builds gradually toward the character you most resemble.
At the end, the character you most closely match becomes your result. The match percentage reflects how strongly your answers leaned toward that character versus the runners-up. A high match means your personality clearly fit one archetype; a closer call means you're a blend, which is just as common.
We don't ask for your email, sign-up, or any personal info to see your result. Take the quiz, get your character, share it if you want, and that's it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this quiz spoiler-safe for Scream 7?
Yes. The questions are about how you handle pressure, loyalty, and danger, not plot specifics. We don't reference any Scream 7 reveals, so whether you've seen the 2026 film or are still catching up, the experience is the same. We also keep the wording free of gore or graphic violence.
Can I get Ghostface as a result?
Not in this version. The results pool is the six core survivors and journalists, not the killers. Ghostface is a different person in nearly every film and the identity is part of each movie's mystery, so making it a result archetype would be both spoilery and tonally off. A killers edition is something we've discussed but won't ship soon.
Do I need to have watched all seven films?
No. The six characters in the results pool are well-established in the original 1996 film (Sidney, Gale, Dewey) or introduced clearly in the requel and Scream VI (Sam, Kirby returns, etc.). If you've seen the original plus either the 2022 requel or any of the recent entries, you'll recognize everyone.
