Earth made first contact, the galaxy is bigger and meaner than anyone admitted, and a rogue Spectre is cracking open ancient horrors that should have stayed buried. You're on the Normandy now — humanity's first prototype stealth frigate — and the squad you build is the only thing standing between civilization and a 50,000-year extinction cycle. Are you the loyal sniper who calibrates everything, the curious scholar who reads minds, or the krogan warlord who solves problems with a shotgun? Take this 24-question quiz to find out.

Question 1 of 24
About Which Mass Effect Character Are You?
BioWare's Mass Effect trilogy is the high-water mark for choice-driven space opera, and the Legendary Edition remaster has kept it on best-seller lists for years past its original release. With Mass Effect 5 quietly in development and the Andromeda discourse mostly settled, the original Normandy crew is once again the cultural reference point. Garrus, Tali, Liara, Wrex, Mordin, Thane, Jack, Miranda, and EDI are characters people genuinely argue about a decade after their stories ended, which is rare for any video game cast.
This twenty-four question quiz drops you onto the Normandy and asks how you handle a galaxy-ending crisis, a moral gray choice with no good option, and a squadmate who needs a hard conversation in the hold. You will land on one of the iconic crew members with a percentage match and a runner-up, plus a quick read on which trait — loyalty, calculation, idealism, ferocity — is doing the most work in your result. Renegade and Paragon answers are weighted equally.
Mass Effect is one of the few game franchises where character matchups feel meaningful rather than novelty, because the cast is built around competing philosophies of how to survive in a hostile galaxy. Garrus is not just a sniper, he is a treatise on whether vigilantism is justified when institutions fail. Mordin is a song, but he is also a thesis on consent and intervention. Picking which one you are tells you something about how you make decisions, and that is the kind of payoff a good character quiz should deliver.
Meet the Characters
Each result in this quiz is anchored in a real character from Which Mass Effect Character Are You? — here's a quick guide to who you might end up matched with.
Garrus Vakarian
The Loyal Sniper
You're the one in the back of the room calibrating something everyone else swears is already fine. You play by the rules until the rules fail people, and then you go vigilante about it — quietly, precisely, and with a sniper rifle. You're dry, dependable, and the friend everyone wants on their six when the loyalty mission goes sideways.
Liara T'Soni
The Curious Scholar
You started as the soft-spoken academic everyone underestimated and quietly became the most dangerous information broker in the galaxy. You're warm, observant, and patient in a way that reads as gentle until you realize you've been read. You love deeply, you process slowly, and you remember everything.
Tali'Zorah
The Engineer Girl Next Door
You're the one who can fix the drive core with two cables and a prayer, then make a nervous joke about it. You're warm, loyal, and weirdly funny under a helmet that hides every facial expression. People underestimate you because you sound sweet — until you redirect a geth platoon with a single console hack.
Urdnot Wrex
The Krogan Warlord
You're old, you're tired, and you've outlived three civilizations' worth of bad ideas. You'd rather solve a problem with a shotgun than a meeting, but underneath the growl is someone trying to drag a whole species toward a future it doesn't deserve. Loyalty is sacred. Cowardice is unforgivable. Quad.
Mordin Solus
The Motormouth Genius
You talk faster than most people think, you've already considered the ethical implications, and you have an opinion on the seashell aria. You're a scientist with a body count and a soft spot for the species you've harmed. You sing when you're nervous. You'd die for the right reason — and you'd already have the calculation done.
Thane Krios
The Quiet Assassin
You move through rooms like you've already left them. You're spiritual, precise, and at peace with the body count — because the body, as you'd say, is the weapon, and the weapon was wielded by someone else. You love rarely and completely, and the people you love never quite understand how lucky they are.
How This Quiz Works
Every question presents you with options that explore different sides of the cast. As you answer, your match builds gradually toward the character you most resemble.
At the end, the character you most closely match becomes your result. The match percentage reflects how strongly your answers leaned toward that character versus the runners-up. A high match means your personality clearly fit one archetype; a closer call means you're a blend, which is just as common.
We don't ask for your email, sign-up, or any personal info to see your result. Take the quiz, get your character, share it if you want, and that's it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Shepard a possible result?
No. Shepard is the player character, which makes them effectively a placeholder for the user. The quiz scores you against the squadmates so the result reflects who you are in relation to a Shepard, not as one.
Does the quiz cover all three games or just ME1?
All three. Trait profiles pull from the full trilogy, including loyalty missions, the Suicide Mission, and the final choices on Earth. Andromeda squadmates are not in the result pool.
Renegade or Paragon — does the quiz lean one way?
Neither. The scoring is balanced so a pure Renegade answer pattern lands on Jack or Zaeed with the same confidence a pure Paragon pattern lands on Liara or Samara. Mixed answers are how most people actually play, and the quiz handles that well.
