Perfect Crown Episode 03 Recap: Seong Huiju Moves Into I-AN's House

Huiju and I-AN sell a romance neither of them trusts yet, and the palace starts testing who will pay for it.

In Perfect Crown Episode 03, Grand Prince I-AN confirms the hotel meeting and possible marriage instead of denying Seong Huiju, turning scandal into public courtship. Huiju uses the noise for sales, Prime Minister Min Jeongwoo is asked to approve the match, and the Queen Mother blocks celebration by taking to her sickbed. By the end, the Junghwajeon Hall fire investigation reaches I-AN’s private residence, Huiju crashes a royal ancestral rite with Ms. Do’s help, and I-AN takes her side in front of everyone who wants her small.

I-AN confirms the scandal and leaves Huiju inside the palace

Episode 03 begins with a public question that already feels like a trap. Reporters shout at I-AN about his scandal with CEO Seong Huiju, a doctor at the hotel, and whether he will confirm the rumors. Huiju arrives into that storm, and the palace answer is colder than romance: if she wants to become the Grand Prince’s wife, she has to deal with the entire nation.

Huiju (IU) understands that warning fast. The palace suggests a donation to the Crown and tells her to win the people over, while promising silence from inside the walls. That is not a blessing. It is a price list.

I-AN (Byeon Woo-seok) then does the one thing Queen Mother least wants. He refuses to deny Huiju. When she asks whether he will call the hotel meeting a misunderstanding, he confirms both the meeting and the possibility of marriage.

That choice also leads into the first soft joke. While I-AN handles Queen Mother, Huiju is left waiting in Anhwadang and ends up with the young King, who cannot sleep and has followed the smell of ramyeon. Huiju feeds him, gets scolded for it, and still asks the marital question she actually cares about: if she and Queen Mother fight, whose side will I-AN take?

He answers, “I’m on your side.”

Then he ruins the sweetness by explaining that he has to look crazy about her so the country believes the absurd marriage is real. Huiju hears the insult. She also hears the promise underneath it.

Huiju turns public hate into sales and asks Min Jeongwoo for approval

The morning after the palace stay, Huiju wears yesterday’s clothes to work on purpose. She has time to change and chooses not to. If people are going to gossip that she did not sleep at home, she wants the story visible before anyone can soften it.

That is Huiju’s gift and her damage in the same move. She reads the cruel comments aloud, corrects them in real time, and notices that the hotel outfit has sold out. Ms. Do (Lee Yeon) wants her to stop reading. Huiju calls the PR team because scandal, to her, is still market share if she can move first.

Prime Minister Min Jeongwoo (Noh Sang-hyun) arrives at Castle Beauty while the office is still buzzing. He asks whether she will really marry His Royal Highness, and Huiju performs devotion so cleanly that it almost becomes funny. She says she wants to wake up next to I-AN every day, then turns the knife: she needs Min to approve the marriage while he is still Prime Minister.

Min’s church scene later gives him more shape than simple jealousy. He says his girlfriend wants to get married, then admits he is not inclined to congratulate her. He does not want to stop her either, which leaves him personally bruised, politically necessary, and too disciplined to object openly.

Queen Mother makes her own move from bed. By presenting herself as sick, she delays any official celebration because no marriage announcement can outrank an elder’s illness. The palace does not need to shout when timing can do the work.

Eggs, inheritance, and the old wound inside Seong Huiju

The public turns on Huiju quickly, and the egg attack gives that backlash a petty, useful face. The schoolgirls call her a siren, accuse her of seducing I-AN, and learn within seconds that Huiju is not the kind of adult who goes soft because the attackers are young.

She drags them into a scolding that sounds half like a CEO memo and half like a furious older sister. They are scholarship students, funded by I-AN, and she asks whether they think his money was meant for egg throwing. She knows exactly how to humiliate them, but she lets them go because she has a bigger undertaking ahead.

Then her father arrives, and the comedy drains out.

Chairman Seong Hyeonguk does not ask whether the scandal is true. He assumes it is another bid for attention and reminds her that the anniversary of Taeju’s mother’s death is coming. The flashback explains why that sentence lands like an old punishment. Young Huiju came to the house as Lee Jooyeon’s daughter, asked whether Seong Hyeonguk was her father, and watched the household collapse around her existence.

From there, every request she made gets folded into the accusation her father still carries: she always wanted more. A bike like Taeju’s. A bigger building than Taeju’s. A changed will. Huiju’s answer is harsh because the injury is old. Everyone who cornered her, she says, manipulated the game before calling her greedy for wanting to win.

When I-AN calls right after that fight, her voice gives her away. He asks whether she is okay. She says she is busy and hangs up. It is pure Huiju: no admission, no softness, just a door closed before anyone can see the room behind it.

I-AN brings convenience-store food and asks why she chose him

I-AN comes anyway.

He arrives at Huiju’s place alone, holding the viral Seong Huiju combo he bought himself. She is startled, then touched in the only way she can bear: by joking about the “Prince-Seductress” set. He notices that she sounded dejected on the phone but seems fine while eating. Huiju lists the day back to him: hate comments, disinheritance threats, eggs from his fans, and the injury she forgot to check because the eggs may or may not have been antibiotic-free.

That is where his concern slips past the fake engagement. He asks if she is injured and reaches toward her.

I-AN then moves her into his private residence for protection. Hyeon (Yu Su-bin) has the arrangements ready, Administrator Kim bows into a whole new level of etiquette, and Huiju looks around like she has stepped onto a historical drama set. The fake romance now has rooms, staff, distance from her office, and a title she did not ask for: “Your Ladyship.”

Their late-night work scene is the romantic turn their fake engagement has been walking toward. I-AN handles royal ancestral rite documents. Huiju, who has never attended even her own family rites, asks what she can help with, then asks the real question: why is he marrying her?

His first reason is money. The royal family is accused of wasting taxpayer funds, and her fortune helps. His second reason is beauty, which Huiju receives with exactly the amount of vanity required. The third reason matters more. If he says he wants the throne, everyone else will answer with accusations and insults. He believes Huiju would understand.

That is the real proposal hiding under the contract. Not love yet. Recognition.

Huiju storms Jongmyo before Queen Mother can turn suspicion into a weapon

Queen Mother’s counterattack arrives through the Junghwajeon Hall fire investigation. Royal Protection officers enter I-AN’s residence, cite the law protecting the royal family, and treat Huiju as a dangerous suspect because she had entered a restricted area during the banquet. The accusation is thin, but it can still do damage.

Huiju tries to call I-AN. He cannot answer because he is inside the ancestral ritual, where phones are forbidden and civilians are barred except on special days. Ms. Do becomes the rescue plan. She runs, argues at the shrine gate, and finally gets through because Administrator Kim brings I-AN’s Hopae, the old token Huiju once joked might summon a dragon.

The confrontation at Jongmyo is all ceremony until Huiju breaks into it. Queen Mother frames her as the main suspect, then says suspicion may be enough to damage her reputation or her company. Huiju bristles at the company threat, but I-AN steps in: the same circumstances apply to him too.

Queen Mother asks whether he maintains his confidence. I-AN asks whether she maintains hers.

Then his body gives out. He collapses in the middle of the standoff, and Huiju calls his name before strategy can cover the fear. The court now knows that I-AN will shield her, and Huiju now knows the shield can bleed.

What works

• Huiju’s same-outfit entrance at Castle Beauty is a perfect character beat. She does not survive gossip by hiding from it; she puts it to work before anyone else can define it.
• The father confrontation gives her ambition a sharper wound. Her greed is not treated as a cute flaw. It is the language she learned in a house where asking for equal treatment made her the disaster.
• I-AN buying the Seong Huiju combo is quietly charming. The gag is silly, but it proves he heard the hurt under her phone voice and came without turning concern into a speech.
• The Jongmyo sequence makes the romance political without flattening the ritual. Access, rank, tokens, and who is allowed to cross which line all matter before anyone raises their voice.

What stumbles

• The fire investigation still feels more useful than mysterious. The pressure it puts on Huiju is strong, but the actual Junghwajeon Hall question remains hazy enough that the palace intrigue leans on accusation more than clues.
• Some subtitle phrasing around the legal threat is stiff, which makes Royal Protection’s authority feel less precise than the scene needs.
• Min Jeongwoo’s emotional position is interesting, though the church scene underplays how much political power he has in this marriage question.

What this sets up for Episode 04

Huiju is now living under I-AN’s protection, wearing the scandal as strategy, and facing a Queen Mother willing to use the fire investigation against her company. I-AN has publicly tied his reputation to hers, but his collapse at Jongmyo makes his private vulnerability harder to hide. Episode 04 has to answer whether their fake marriage can move faster than the palace’s attempt to make Huiju look dangerous.
